In a bid to support retailers and stimulate sales for the coming season, Pod footwear have created their most competitive BTS range to date.
Continuing with their ‘Quality you can trust’ campaign, Pod have divided the 2012 BTS range into two main price brackets to provide retailers with more variation, in terms of price and style options. This active approach has created a platform to enable both supplier and retailer to target a broader range of customers by offering quality products at increasingly competitive prices.
The core Pod back to school range consists of their signature styles which feature wipe-clean scuff and stain resistant leathers uppers, breathable fabric linings and durable flex rubber soles. New features include innovative hologram branding and panelled upper designs. In response to increasing demand from retailers, selected styles now range from an EU size 27 through to 52.
Furthermore, in spite of rising manufacturing and material costs, through direct product sourcing and consistent communication with suppliers and factories, Pod have maintained the same price point as their previous back to school season.
The second back to school range for 2012 features a brand new TPR sole unit. Designed as a move on from the chunky Pod sole, the Stag unit maintains the same durability as the classic Pod sole whilst benefitting from a more lightweight feel and smoother appearance. What’s more, by sourcing new material suppliers and specialised factories, Pod have achieved a recommended retail price point £5 below the core Pod range.
The Pod sales team are now on the road with the new BTS range. The collection will also be exhibited at February’s Moda trade show.

The Schoolwear Show is just around the corner and CWB magazine preview this year's predicted highlights.
Among those is the Pod children's back to school collection with sizes ranging up to a UK 17.
New design features include our innovative Pod hologram branding throughout the boys' range and classic mary-jane styles for the girls. We return with our 'Quality you can trust' campaign, promoting the use of quality materials such as our rich leather uppers, breathe-easy fabric linings, durable genuine rubber soles & meticulously detailed branding.

Hi-tops, lace-ups and tough, casual shoes were all popular among the boys' ranges showcased at the ss12 edition of Moda Footwear. Bold primary colours, simple, clean styling detailing were all key looks.

Following the launch of the Podlers' 'Tea Party' collection at the Moda trade show in August, the brand new SS12 infant shoe collection will be out on the road with our salesmen over the coming months, showing children's footwear retailers across the UK just what the new collection entails. With bubblegum pinks, electric blues and pillar box reds the collection is set to be the brightest yet and not to mention the most comprehensive. As well as the super soft leather collection from EU size 21 to 31, the new range will incorporate girls & boys canvas velcro shoes and summer sandals in sizes 20-26.

It's that time of year again when the Pod footwear team make their biannual trip down the M6 to a not so far away land called Birmingham in order to exhibit their brand new footwear collections at the NEC. Having piled almost the entire office contents into one modest sized rent-a-van, the team will be arriving in full force this weekend ready to show retailers just what the new Pod season has in store.
To freshen up the Moda exhibition, we have been repositioned to stand X9 where we will be showing our new lines of men's casual & formal shoes and boots, men's extra large sized footwear up to a UK size 17 and our men's Pod Heritage collection. Joining the brand will be the Podlers' infant shoe collection, which will be hosting their very special garden tea party. Of course you are all invited, so long as you bring your own tea and cake.
As well as our SS12 collection, we will also have available our children's back to school shoe collection for retailers wishing to 'top-up' their initial order.

Quality you can trust
When product development company Aegis Shoes Ltd took on the brand licence for Pod footwear in 2008, it was very clear from the onset the direction in which they wanted to take the infants' shoe brand Podlers.
By adopting a design philosophy to create beautifully crafted infants' shoes, using superior quality materials such as super soft leather uppers, sturdy yet flexible genuine rubber soles and breathable fabric and leather linings, together with the bold Podlers' branding and use of bright block colours, the Podlers' identity was soon becoming recognised as a brand in its own right.
Three years on and the Podlers' philosophy is as strong as ever. Following the release of the AW11 collection, the Podlers' development team have been working hard to source new leather suppliers to achieve brighter and more diverse colour variations for the SS12 collection of lime greens, hot pinks, electric blues and pillar box reds. And despite rising material and production costs, Podlers have been determined to keep their shoes competitively priced whilst still retaining the high quality that the brand is known for. With so many footwear brands venturing down the synthetic route, Podlers have placed even more emphasis on their 'Quality you can trust' campaign, which is strongly used throughout the core Pod ranges.
Furthermore, because Podlers are keen to support independent retailers, they offer low minimum order quantities, giving them an opportunity to select a variety of styles and colour combinations across the range, without having to hold a huge amount of stock, which for many retailers is no longer possible.
The Podlers' SS12 'Tea Party' collection is set to be the strongest collection to date with style such as Strawberry Shortcake and Liquorice as the predicted favourites. It will be premiered at Moda on stand X9. (Look out for the Podlers' toadstool)!
Menswear Buyer Magazine asked Pod footwear their monthly quick question. "If you had six months with no obligations or financial constraints, what would you do with the time?"
"I'd love to travel around Latin America and explore the diverse landscapes the countries have to offer. I've heard wonderful things about the people and it would be the perfect opportunity to refresh my Spanish. There would be a great risk that I would never come back!"

As always we think that their bold colours, softy leathers and flex rubber soles make Podlers one of a kind, but they've also caught the eye of Drapers magazine & our little Strawberry shortcake mary-jane shoe is featured in this month's 'Buyers' Guide'.

Pod creates rugby squad
Footwear label Pod is raising awareness of it's brand through the sponsorship of a rugby squad. The team, which has adopted the name Pod, is created by players from Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, and played against the England 7s team in its first tournament last month.
"Admittedly we provided a warm up and light entertainment for the England squad, but we came away standing," says Amy Richardson, marketing and merchandising for Pod. "We may remain the underdogs, but this sponsorship is a bit of fun for all of us, especially as we are rugby enthusiasts."
Pod chose to sponsor the rugby team because it felt that there was a synergy between the game and the brand's product. "The game fits in with our tough, hard-wearing shoes" says Richardson. "That was the real motivation behind this deal - we are happy to supply the kit and see our name out there because the overall image of rugby fits in with our identity".

As one of the UK's leading supplier of boys' and girls' back to school shoes we felt that is was only right to create a dedicated page displaying the current collection.
Here you will be able to find the boys' styles such as the lace-up shoe Dexter, the velcro style Domino and the ankle boot Mac. As always, these styles have been made using our top quality scuff & stain resistent Permair leather.
New girls' styles include the classic mary-jane single-strap style Zara and double-strap Zaria. In addition to the two velcro styles, the collection includes the ballet pump Zia.
With increasing demand for extra-large boys' footwear, we've expanded the size range for key styles such as the Apollo, Adam and Alan to a UK 17.
At the other end of the spectrum, we have introduced two Podlers' infants' school shoes into the 2011 Back to School collection, with a size range of an EU 27-31.

We sincerely hope that the Pod footwear website has proved itself in being a good source of information to our existing and potential retailers over the past few years, since its launch in 2009.
Up until now the main purpose of the site has been to display our new footwear ranges, provide information about news and up & coming events, sponsorship we may be taking part in and act as a general reference database. Oh, and not forgetting the Pod Gallery where Moz, the official Pod footwear photographer displays his excellent photos from recent Pod-related events.
So, after investing quite a lot of time and effort into our beloved webite, making sure that everything runs smoothly, in a quick and easy manner, we do hope that our retailers have found it to be of some use.
However, as self-confessed perfectionists, we're never quite satisfied and feel that there is always room for improvement, especially in this fast-moving technological world we live in.
That's why we've made a few changes here and there. We've kept all the same great features as before so you'll still have access to our heritage shoes, his shoes, Podlers infants' shoes, Pod blog and Pod rugby sevens sponsorship. But, we've added a few more sections including the Back to School shoes page, so you can view the complete boys' & girls' school shoe collection.
You may also notice that we've modified the Pod footwear homepage, we hope that this makes the website easier to navigate and might entice you into venturing a little further into our site to see what we have to offer.
Perhaps the most exciting change is the new Retailer Zone. As www.pod-footwear.com has been primarily designed for our retailers, we thought we'd create a handy information page where you can access any information you might need as a Pod retailer, including information about our point of sale packages, official pod logos & graphics and how to get in touch with the Pod team.

A recent research study from a well-known footwear brand has revealed how shoe design affects child development. The results show how the construction of a shoe can affect gait, stability and plantar loading throughout different stages of learning to walk.
The study was conducted over a two year period in partnership with the Temple University School of Podiatric Medecine and the California College of Podiatric Medicine. Its focus was to understand children's foot development milestones in order to identify if shoe flexibility should vary for each development stage.
Researchers examined how different characteristics of shoes affected children's gait patter, plantar pressures and stability while performing functional tasks through an obstacle course - all while wearing shoes of varying flexibilty and barefoot. They found that children wearing properly fitting, ultra-flexible shoes experienced fewer stumbles and falls when learning to walk.
Good news for our Podlers infants' shoes as we believe them to be the softest, most flexible shoes around. This indepth footwear study confirms our Podlers philosophy of flexible feet, and unlike traditional children's shoes, our Podlers have three key elements that we believe make the perfect shoe: the flex, the fit & the quality.

Following the unanticipated and quite frankly phenomenal success of last year's rugby 7s tournaments, the prospect of the squad reuniting under the Pod sponsorship for the 2011 season was a sure bet.
Consisting of existing squad members along with some new faces, our line-up of local lads is the strongest yet and with the newly designed 'tight is right' kit the team are raring to go.
Just as well, considering our first tournament this Sunday 8th May ULR7s, where we'll be facing none other than the full England Squad, Dig Deep. First aid kits at the ready there's no doubting our team of local lads will give everything they've got. Anything for a challenge.

Arguably the most-popular style from back in the day and no doubt the most synonymous style with the Pod brand, the Quilted shoes are finally back on the scene. After receiving a phenomenal amount of requests from our dedicated followers of fashion, we think we've done the original design justice; we've even had the approval from the original Pod men which is nothing to sniff at!

The 5-eyelet Chukka boot
Newbie to the Pod Heritage collection, the Wood chukka boot retains all the characteristics that are essential to the make-up of a Pod Heritage shoe. This issue OOAL magazine takes a look at some key men's footwear brands in the industry to see what's they're doing to stay ahead...
Men's fashion footwear is having to become more original and eye-catching each season in order to compete in a fast growing marketplace.
With that in mind, British footwear brand Pod unveiled its Authorised Service boot collection at Moda in February, as part of their most comprehensive AW collection to date.
Influenced by the contemporary lumberjack-style trend, the rugged boot line features earth-toned waxed and oiled full-grain leathers, authentic tartam linings, natural contrast stitch lines and antique-finished brass eyelets.

Despite the glorious weather we have all been enjoying recently, the sun never quite shines bright enough on the Pod HQ until the Podlers spring-summer stock arrives. So, we're extremely pleased to announce that the new collection is now here. And what a collection it is!
Following huge demand from our valued retailers & customers, we decided that the standard 22-28 european size range just wasn't enough and rather than leaving a nation of toddlers without these lovely little shoes or as I like to call Podlers-less (I'm working on it), we have extended the Podlers collection which now ranges from a tiny 21 to a generous 31.
Like any good parent, we realise we're not allowed to have favourites, so in line with all things politically correct, here are some of our best-sellers from the Podlers SS11 collection...

CWB Speaks to Podlers footwear brand about the Autumn/Winter 2011 Season.
How is the aw11 selling season faring for you?
So far, we've had a good response to our aw ranges and have attracted a lot of interest from many new accounts as well as from our existing customers. Sales have been much more positive than last year and despite most buyers being very conservative, we've increased sales with a broader spread of product.
Have you noticed any changes in what buyers are ordering in terms of product?
Mosta re avoiding fringe ranges and looking to place safe products, which have been tried and tested. Functionality, price and service are all very important. The Pod range is mostly middle of the road, offering quality and value for money and we always continue to expand the range of product offered.
Which have been your bestsellers for aw11?
We've experienced continued increased sales for Podlers and it's certainly becoming a brand in its own right. The aw11 collection attracted a lot of interest at Moda Footwear, with the boys' Casper and girls' Chloe boots stealing the show. We also introduced the double Velcro softy leather style Comet, which was a great hit. We always take into account what our customers have to say in terms of feedback on our footwear, as they deal directly with the consumers. We've already responded to buyers' requests for a broader size range to target the pre-school age by increasing the core Podlers line to a size 31 and, in terms of styles, we have our bestsellers and usually incorporate those into future ranges. Customers are always pleased with our colour choices as we tend to stick with bright yet traditional block colours. It's more about keeping the high quality materials.

The CWB team were spolit for choice at last month's Moda trade show with so many innovative brands on offer, all showcasing their latest styles and designs in children's wholesale footwear for AW11. As always, the lovely CWB editors stopped by for a quick visit to select our gorgeous Charlie fur-top boot to feature in their on-site photo shoot. Fresh from the Podlers AW11 collection was the Chloe toggle boot and Casper the double-velcro ankle boot.

A STEP AHEAD
FE picks the hottest styles for autumn/winter 2011 as spotted at last month's Moda Footwear.
Two of our brand new styles from the Pod AW11 boot collection were quite literally at the top of the pile in this month's Footwear & Fashion Extras magazine's Moda Show Review.
Our Lumberjack-style hiking boot, (featured at the top-right) features super quality hides, natural contrast stitching, authentic tartan linings and of course next season's must- the white commando sole. Now that's what I call a boot! On the same tractor-tyre sole, is our military boot (standing tall at the top of the ladder) which uses a combination of waxed canvas and distressed cracked leather, finished with aged antique-brass heavy eyelets.

As a product-led company, Pod have spent the last year developing their strongest BTS collection yet, featuring newly developed rubber branding, racing stripe stitching and sporty-grip genuine rubber soles. Highlights include the double strap velcro style Domino and Dexter, the lace-up option.
With quality always at the top of the agenda, Pod have released their 'Quality You Can Trust' poster campaign to demonstrate their commitment to both quality and product. Sizes begin at an EU 32 with selected styles continuing through to their XL range.
Following much demand from retailers, Podlers infants' shoes are expanding into the Pod BTS 2011 collection. Aimed at the pre-school age group, sizes range from an EU 27 to 31 and include the girls' classic Mary-Jane style, Eclipse and boys' criss-cross velcro shoe, Jupiter. Both are available in black and navy ultra-soft leathers with contrasting linings and feature the Podlers' playful monster characters rubber branding. It's that time of year again when the biggest brands in the footwear market come together at the largest UK trade show. Last week's decision by the EU to ditch the anti-dumping duties on leather footwear sourced from China and Vietnam will allow retailers to safeguard margins but is unlikely to lead to a drop in the retail price of footwear to consumers, industry leaders warned.
The duties, which amount to 16.5% on Chinese leather imports and 10% on Vietnamese leather footwear imports, were introduced in 2006 in an attempt to prevent the market from being swamped with cheap Far Eastern imports.
Last week it was announced that the anti-dumping duties would not be renewed on March 31st 2011.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC), which backed Drapers' 2009, Dump the Duties campaign to put pressure on the EU to ditch the levies, said that the change would reduce the retail price of footwear and drive consumer spending. Its head of EU affairs said " It will be significant enough to increase consumer confidence".
But retailers and manufacturers said it would only be enough to mitigate the rising costs of production, raw materials and freight.
Many brands have been forced to move production to other countries as a result of the duty. Dennis McNeil, director of Aegis shoes ltd (footwear licensees to Pod) commented:
" As a product-led company, Pod is known and trusted for its quality and for us to maintain this we made the decision to stay loyal to our factory and keep production in China. As a consequence, we had to sacrifice our margins and the factory kept their prices as low as possible. Having said that, we did get to a point where we couldn't continue with the levies on top of the rising manufacturing costs and we did consider moving production to India. However, now that the anti-dumping levies have been abolished, our loyalty to the factory has been worthwhile."
PODLERS' NEW BTS OFFER

Infant footwear brand Podlers is expanding to include a larger size range and new styles for BTS 2011. The growth of the range reflects demand from retailers for BTS schoolwear in smaller sizes, targeting the pre-school age group.
Highlights include a new girls' classic Mary-Jane style and a boys' criss-cross Velcro shoe. Both are available in black and navy softy leathers and feature a monster sole, coloured logos and rubber design features. The Podlers' Back to School size range spans from EU 27 to 31.
DURABLE AND COMFORTABLE SCHOOL FOOTWEAR TO KEEP CUSTOMERS ON THEIR TOES
Pod have spent the last year developing their BTS range, producing the strongest collection yet for 2011. The range features newly developed rubber branding throughout, racing stripe stitching and sporty grip genuine rubber soles. Sizes start at an EU 32 and carry through to the XL range.

The Pod footwear team were caught on camera at the last Moda trade show in August. No, it's not what you think...
Video highlights from the show have been uploaded onto the revamped Moda website and 28 seconds in there we are in the background! If you look closely enough you can catch a glimpse of our Pod Heritage shoes sitting comfortably on top of their Pod comic-lined suitcase filled with the original Pod shoe-making tools and equipment. Put your specs on and beyond the Pod Heritage display you may just see the men's smart shoe range.
Ok, so it's not quite fifteen minutes of fame (if we're getting technical about it, it's one second) but it's not often you see your name up in lights!
What's more the lovely people at Moda featured our Podlers Hot Pink Sun girls' shoe throughout the show's ceiling banners, bags and posters. For such a tiny shoe, it certainly made a big impact!
Now, we're not going to let this newly found fame go to our heads but if you do plan to visit us at the next Moda show in February, you may notice that the Pod team are looking a bit more groomed and coiffed than usual....just in case!

Yes it's the time of year again that all postmen dread the most, when Christmas cards in abundance flood through your letterbox.
Don't get me wrong, I love nothing more than finding a mountain of Christmas cards on my doormat in the lead up to the festive season, it certainly adds to that warm festive feeling, but unless you're like my Aunty Margaret who insists on making useful, and I use that word lightly, miniature boxes out of the old Christmas cards, they usually end up in the recycling bin.
Not to mention offending the Jones' because you've forgotten to send them a card (we haven't spoken to them in over 5 years after all). And I could quite happily go without the embarrassment of trying to subtly post one through their front door on Christmas Eve, successfully may I add, until their beloved pet terrior decides to yap loudly just as you manage to carefully place the letterbox flap down. Shortly followed by a red-faced acceptance to join the entire family for an uncomfortable glass of mulled wine.
Plus you can't help but feel sorry for those poor trees; believing that one day they will fulfill their destiny to become an expensive coffee table, only to find themselves thrown onto a glittery heap in a recycling bin.
Now, we realise times are hard and we're all feeling the pinch; those pennies just don't seem to stretch as far as they used to. So why not save your pennies by crossing us off your Christmas card list and do something good with your money instead? Charities across the UK are suffering as a direct result of the recession and as much as we do try to support them, there's no denying that the goodwill and generosity that they so heavily rely on from the public is becoming less and less.
So, we ask you to join us in our Christmas plea and cross POD off your Christmas card list and support a local charity! Willen Hospice is a charity which is close to our hearts and it is also recognised as an integral part of the local community, so like every year we do our bit to support their fantastic work.
And, if you are still expecting a festive greeting from us, well here it is...
"We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"

What's hot? The Moon fuzzy top boot available in tan with natural contrast stitching or black which features multi-coloured stitching. The Schoolwear Show Lowdown
CWB Reviews The Schoolwear Show, which took place at Cranmore Park, Solihull in October.
This years' Schoolwear Show played host to 44 exhibitors and attracted over 800 visitors, including buyers from Canada and Germany. Feedback from suppliers at the show was positive too, with many reporting an equally good number of new enquiries, as well as seeing existing customers.
Back to School footwear brand Pod, which was taken on by design and development company Aegis Shoes Ltd in 2008, returned to Cranmore Park this year and chose the Schoolwear Show as its exhibition of choice for seeing existing BTS customers and also those reinstating their relationship with the brand. This year Pod returned to the show and CWB caught up with the brand...
"As last year was the first time we exhibited at the show we were unsure of what to expect, however, there seemed to be a very positive mood, "says the brand's marketing manager, Amy Richardson. "The general consensus from customers was that despite the present economic situation, there is still a strong demand for quality footwear, with many of our customers topping up their stock throughout the season due to high sales."

Following the success of their spring-summer collection, Pod are continuing to develop their sporty new Ringo range. The collection features natural waxed and oiled hide uppers, distressed leather trims and earthy seasonal colours such as willow and nutmeg tones.
Development of the distinctive lightweight rubber sole has given the Pod men's collection a contemporary alternative to Pod's signature chunky style yet still providing the known Pod quality. The range features strongly throughout the Pod collection ranging from boys' to men's XL sizes.

Originally launched in 1976 Pod shoes have now re-emerged from the archive, with Pod Heritage now set to spark a retro revolution across UK streets for 2010.
Aimed at key independent retailers across the UK, Pod Heritage has already been taken on by some of the industry's leading stores, with stockists such as Phillip Browne in Norwich and Ran in Manchester and Liverpool leading the way.
With designs straight out of the Pod archive, the collection itself is divided into two lines- English Soul and Rubber Soul. English Soul offers iconic features such as the two row heavy mudguard stitching, thick crepe sole and round woolly laces. For 2011, English Soul brings back the much anticipated Quilted shoe and the 5 eyelet Chukka boot.
Creative input from the founders of Pod has meant that the designs have stayed true to their original form, a commitment that's equally in evidence throughout the Rubber Soul line. Pod steps onto vintage trail
Originally launched in 1976 Pod's heritage is 100 per cent true casual. So, with all things casual still on the rise, the brand dipped a toe into the heritage pond in 2000, and it is taking a full step out for 2010. Vintage fan Andy Magill is the man charged with getting the brand's new English Soul collection into the right stores, with the likes of Gloverall, John Smedley and Ben Sherman being earmarked as the ideal adjacencies.

The Olney 7s tournament saw another fantastic performance from the Pod Rugby 7s team. Not only did they make it to the gruelling final but they won against local team Crispen Rhodes Crusaders with a final score of 22 against 5. With the 7s season coming to an end POD have one more challenge to go at the Worthing 7s tournament later this month. We look forward to seeing you there!

Drawing on its heritage roots, casual footwear brand Pod has launched a sub-brand for spring 10 called Pod Heritage.
Aimed at indies, the range is divided into two stories. English Soul features Pod's original crepe sole, soft leathers and Union Jack branding. Pod's new Back to School Promotion
Pod footwear is offering its key retailers a promotional giveaway with purchases from its Back to School 2010 range of shoes.
Following the success of its free memory stick giveaway last season, it is now offering a free bag featuring a reflective Pod logo. Pod showcased its latest Back to school range at October's edition of The Schoolwear Show, which included the relaunch of its most successful girls' styles from the 90s, alongside signature designs with chunky genuine rubber soles, breathable mesh linings and scuff and stain resistant leathers.
The Back to School range will be available to view again at next month's edition of Moda footwear at the NEC.

Our cute as a button Podlers were shining bright at their second Moda show this August with the launch of their spring-summer velcros collection.
The feet huggable infants' shoes brought attention from everybody wanting a squeeze of their super-squashable, ultra-soft and breathable leathers.
New styles include the boys' velcro shoe Pluto and girls' mary jane velcro styles Sun (featured below) and Star. The collection features its brightest colours yet with the girls' hot pink and boys' pic 'n' mix combination stealing the show.

Key styles from the men's shoe and boot range have been selected to 'go large' with sizes ranging from 47 to 50.

Over 30 years since they first stepped out onto the footwear market, the original Pod shoes are back to celebrate their retro revival with the re-launch of the iconic Pin-Punch design.
The new licensees are taking the designs back to their summer of '76 roots, which include new and improved original features, like the trapezium logo and Pod man swing tags.

Do you remember the original Pod comfort shoes? Let me think, there was the Pin-Punch shoe, the Quilted shoe, the Sergeant Stripe boot and the Chevron shoe to name a few. Not to mention the woolley laces, jubilee side flag, podman swingtag and the iconic pod logo peeping out from under your jeans. All sitting comfortably on that thick crepe sole. Ahh yes, those were the days of my youth, they don't make them like they used to that's for sure. Oh wait a minute...
After 30 years since they first stepped out onto the footwear market, the original Pod comfort shoes are making a comeback! The Pod design team are hard at work re-creating the original Pod shoes using samples from the 1970s along with the same manufacturing techniques as the original designers.
The new collection will be released in 2010 so in the meantime keep up-to-date with all Pod news here on the Pod Blog.
